Create a new use for an old bucket or barrel by reusing it and planting in it with your favorite flowers. While most commercially sold containers have a drainage hole by design, you may still choose to add more in larger pots. A little creativity and you can turn almost any container around your home into a potted garden.

Whatever container you select to transform, be sure you pick one with good drainage or be able to drill holes in it to create a drain. Standing water in your soil is sure to destroy your garden and rot your plants. If the object will hold soil and will allow for water to easily drain through, it can be used as a potting container. Plants have the wonderful ability to change and adapt themselves to whatever growing conditions they are. While you can find plenty of nice containers at many garden centers, many unique containers can become handy planting pots. Old bins, cans, jars and crates can become unique planting beds.

With adequate drainage and a good potting mix, you will be sure to avoid any water logging problems.
